Reception class I have been so impressed with all the work that has gone on, you are all doing so well.

Phonics:

  • Look at this set of igh words . Encourage the children to sound them out and blend them together to read the whole word. e.g s-igh-t, sight

  • Create your own set of igh words on card or print out the ones above. Put them in a bag or a box. Play some music and when the music stops, your child pulls out a card, sounds it out and blends it together to say the word.

  • Can your child choose the correct igh word to match the pictures

  • Read this simple igh words sentence.

  • Practise the phase 3 sounds learnt so far and find oa.

  • Practise making oa words using letter cards. Sound them out and blend to read the whole word.

  • Choose a word to copy to match the pictures of a simple boat, coat and road.

Literacy:

  • Write a sentence about the picture of the goat.

  • Play spelling games. Choose the letter sounds you want to focus on and listen for the word to spell.

  • Read your favourite book.

Maths:

  • Thursday’s maths lesson with Oak National Academy

  • Make a set of number cards 1-10 on scrap cardboard. Ask your child to put them in order from 1-10. Ask your child: what is 1 more than… , they point to the number and find 1 more. If they can do this, take some of the cards away until they can say the number that is 1 more for all the numbers to 10 without any cards at all.
