Spring is in the air ... Year One Home Learning - Week beginning 6-4-20

At the end of the second week, it has been lovely speaking to many of you over the phone and seeing your work on the Home Learning Showcase .

For this week, I would like you to think about Spring. Activities will be based around Spring and can be completed in your gardens or when you go for your daily walk.

English

  • Plan an Easter egg hunt- Write instructions for someone else in your house to follow. Leave a clue at each place. Leave them a prize at the end. (This could be a picture that you’ve drawn or a cake that you’ve made) Remember to write in your best handwriting- if you can’t read it, they can’t read it!

  • Write a story about a rabbit. Where does the rabbit live? What does it look like? Where does it go? What problem is there? How is this problem solved? Illustrate your story. I would love to see them on the showcase! Don’t forget your capital letters and full stops!

  • Read, read, read! Read any books that you have at home. There are some great online websites as well. Here are some examples: Cbeebies Storytime, BBC Bitewise Stories, Oxford Owl.

Maths

I hope that you enjoyed the Maths activities from last week. This week we will start looking at Making groups, Adding groups and Arrays. The short videos will help you to understand what you need to do. Please do not worry about printing out any work or worksheets. Make notes on paper or talk about it with a grown up.

To support this Maths work, you may also like to try the following Maths activities:

  • How many socks you can find. Can you pair them up and count them in 2’s?

  • How many pairs of shoes can you find? Pair them up and count in 2’s. Can you write the number of shoes that you find?

  • Collect stones and put them into groups of 5. How many stones did you find? Can you count them in 5’s?

  • Find a flower and count the petals. Is there an even number of petals or an odd number?

Topic

  • Plant a seed- Plant a seed and watch it grow. You could take pictures of it every few days or use a ruler to measure it. Sunflower seeds are great, if you can get hold of some. If not, why not try planting an old potato? You will have to be patient! Watch this video to help you.

  • Make a flower picture- Use twigs, leaves and stones to make a Spring picture. Why not upload a picture to the Home Learning Showcase?

  • Find out about the Easter Story. Watch this video and draw a picture.

If we were still in school, this would be the beginning of the Easter holidays. Please take this time to recharge your batteries, rest and relax and have some fun at home. These are ideas to keep you busy and to help you to remember what we have been learning in class. Complete them at a time that is good for you and your family.

Take care, stay safe and I look forward to seeing you all again soon.
